I just wish this rain would go away and stay away! We had one sunny afternoon in the past 10 days, and I was stuck inside at a dance recital. Don’t get me wrong, I loved seeing my little niece dance in her first recital, but there’s only so much rain and being inside one can take. Because of the rain, several of my PBing sessions have been postponed. We could do them inside, but I know they would prefer some photos outside as well, so it was just best to reschedule until the weather cooperates a bit more.

What else can you do when it rains and you’re itching to take some photos? Dress up in rain gear and splash in the puddles! Here are a few of my DD last week (these are not technically wonderful, but I still think they were cute enough to share):

Wow, where has this past week gone? I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday! I’ve been working hard on getting my marketing materials and pricing sheets finalized so that I can get them to all of my Portfolio Building customers, so you might see a few changes going on around here. Please let me know if you like/dislike what you see.

And now onto “What to Wear Wednesday”. This week I put together a cute little family ensemble from Old Navy. I think this would work out well since it’s not too matchy-matchy.

Today, I had a fun (minus the snake and bugs!) mini-shoot with a couple of cuties! Here’s a sneak peek:

Thanks for letting me come and take photos today!

I am currently scheduling Pro Bono sessions, and the most common question that I’m getting is “What should [insert child's name here] wear for the session?”

My immediate response is: Please have them wear something that represents who they are. But, I can see how that can be pretty vague. So, here is a quick list of what to consider when choosing your child’s clothing (keeping in mind their individual personality, as well):

  • Keep clothing simple so your photos remain timeless. We can do a wardrobe change to incorporate some more trendy styles, but overall, you want to forego the frilly chiffon dresses and little suits for our session.
  • Bright colors and simple patterns are welcome.
  • Accessories, such as colorful pettiskirts, cowboy boots, a funky hat, or any other fun additions can make your photos unique, and they can really help bring out your child’s personality.
  • If more than one child is being photographed, try to coordinate their outfits but try not to make them too matchy-matchy.
  • Solid neutral colors are always a sure bet! Please try to stay away from black or white solids.
  • And most important, comfy clothing always works best. It allows me to capture true emotion and personality.

Here are a few ideas that I think would photograph well:

I hope these give you some ideas for how to dress your little ones. This is by no means telling you to go out and buy new clothes just for your session (but go ahead if you like – shopping’s fun!); please just use the above as guidance. Go raid their closets and come up with your own combinations. I’m sure you can come up with something unique and personal, which will make your photos that much more special.

If you have any questions prior to your session or if you need further help choosing clothing, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Happy dressing!
